Why a Lake Norman agent works Hickory
I grew up in the Lake Norman area, went to Lake Norman High and then East Carolina University, and worked in social media marketing before I got into real estate. Plenty of the people I talk to are deciding between the lake towns and Catawba County, and for a lot of them Hickory wins: a real downtown, Lenoir-Rhyne, a strong local job base and prices well below the Charlotte suburbs.

What I check on every Hickory-area home
Around Hickory, a mailing address tells you surprisingly little. These are the details that change your taxes, schools and resale value.
Which of three counties?
Hickory reaches into Catawba, Burke and Caldwell counties, and much of the area around it is outside city limits. That decides your tax rate and whether you're on city water and sewer.
Which of three school systems?
Hickory Public Schools, Catawba County Schools and Newton-Conover City Schools all serve homes with nearby addresses. Newton addresses can even be zoned to Maiden High. I confirm with the county locator every time.
Historic districts and down payment help
Homes in Oakwood, Kenworth and Claremont come with exterior design review. First-time buyers may qualify for the Unifour down payment program. I flag both early.
